Introduction to Dr. Rebecca (Bec) Deasey,
General Practitioner in the Cayman Islands

I am a UK-trained General Practitioner with 17 years of experience and have recently joined Optimal Healthcare. My background includes primary and urgent care, as well as legal and forensic medicine (sexual assault). I have previously practised in the Cayman Islands for four years and have worked in both public and private healthcare settings in the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom.

I am enthusiastic about preventative health and supporting people to live healthier, happier lives. I see patients for general health and wellness checks, chronic disease management, and acute illness. I believe healthcare should be holistic and personalised, helping people feel informed, supported, and confident in making decisions about their health.

I look forward to providing high-quality, compassionate care to the Cayman Islands community through my work at Optimal Healthcare.

General Practitioner Experience

I trained in the United Kingdom and completed my Specialist Certificate of Training in General Practice through the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). I have over 17 years of experience working in routine general practice and urgent care in both the UK and the Cayman Islands, with additional experience in legal and forensic medicine. My work has involved caring for patients across the lifespan, from childhood through to older age and end-of-life care.

Alongside my clinical practice, I have held senior leadership roles, including Medical Lead for a large integrated urgent care service, general practice, and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) service. In this role, I led a large multidisciplinary team and was responsible for maintaining high standards of patient care, clinical governance, and the mentorship and professional development of clinicians in training or undertaking further qualifications.

For five years, I functioned as an expert witness for the General Medical Council in fitness-to-practise cases relating to general practice and urgent care. This work required detailed clinical review and a strong focus on patient safety, quality improvement, and the maintenance of professional standards within healthcare.

More recently, I trained as a UK Medical Examiner through the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath), working closely with families and healthcare teams to ensure high standards of clinical care and compassionate communication. A considerable proportion of my non-clinical work has therefore focused on patient safety, governance, and quality of care improvement.

In addition, I have completed further training through Harvard Medical School in digital transformation and leadership and am currently pursuing a master’s degree in the same areas.

In my clinical work, I care for people of all ages, providing assessment and treatment for acute illness, long-term condition management, and ongoing health needs. I am particularly committed to holistic, personalised care that supports prevention, promotes wellbeing, and enables people to live healthier, longer lives.
